ABOUT
[ko'lōn] is a New York–based denim atelier devoted to the study and reinterpretation of early American workwear.
By studying the construction, proportions, and material choices of early American makers, the atelier uncovers a design language shaped by necessity rather than trend. These discoveries form the foundation for new garments—pieces that honor the integrity of their predecessors while existing fully in the present.
Denim remains central to this exploration. As one of the defining textiles of American workwear, its strength and ability to age gracefully make it uniquely suited to garments meant to be worn for decades. With time, each piece develops its own character, recording the life of its wearer much like the historic garments that inspired it.
[ko'lōn] does not seek to replicate the past. Instead, it engages in a dialogue with it—using history as both reference and raw material.
In doing so, the atelier aims to create garments that may one day return to the archive themselves: objects that endure, evolve, and carry forward the spirit of the earliest American workwear.

What Sets Us Apart
Design Is Grounded in Use, Not Trend
The garments are designed to support daily life, prioritizing fit, movement, and comfort. Made to be worn regularly, each piece adapts over time, becoming shaped by the experiences of the person who wears it.
Small‑Batch, Made‑to‑Order Production
By producing garments in small batches or made to order, each piece receives attention at every stage of production. This measured approach prioritizes consistency and care over speed or volume, allowing garments to be made deliberately, without excess or compromise, and designed to be relied upon over time.
Longevity, by design
Through deliberate material selection, precise patternmaking, and a focus on longevity, each garment reflects the philosophy that clothing should improve with time. Denim is chosen not only for its structure, but for its ability to age—fading, softening, and evolving with the wearer.
